Unplugged celebrates the counterculture of the 60s and 70s. When music was magic, war was out, love was in and freedom was everything.  When we came from the coast, cities and hills to surf, skate, ride and rebel.  Step into our store and discover the fashion, music, people, books and icons that shaped a revolution.

Hello World

Hand-shaped surf boards and 70s skates hang from exposed trusses, and original vintage motorbike, skateboard and surf  pics adorn the walls of our retro-inspired den of fashion, music, art and icons.

Unplugged is the latest creation of French-born. Olivier Certa, who opened Byron’s first surf art shop, Ho’okupu, in 1999. Five years later, Olivier handed over the reins, having realised his vision and cemented the store as a Byron Bay icon celebrating the Aloha spirit.

Since then, Olivier has been cultivating the Unplugged dream; researching, collecting, travelling, building his dream home, spending time with family and drawing inspiration from friends and mentors like Dick Hoole, Albe Falzon, Jack McCoy, George Greenough, Chris Malloy and Nat Young.  This influx of new ideas and experiences, combined with Olivier’s passion for music, art and fashion, culminated in the launch of Unplugged in 2009.

A self-confessed idealist, Olivier says Unplugged is a natural progression of his previous work, and aims to encourage a new generation of free spirits. Unplugged is his way to showcase a broader and current vision of an ideal lifestyle.
There’s no doubt that Unplugged is as cool as the 60s and 70s counterculture that inspired its evolution. Olivier has sourced fashion, films, accessories, books, art, music and retro collectables from across the globe for men who value authenticity.

While we’re all for online shopping, nothing beats flicking through our vinyl records, flipping through surf mags or sizing up new board to the soulful sounds of Hendrix, Davis and Clapton. The only tough part will be tossing up between the retro headphones, vintage skateboards or classic cameras

And of course there’s our fashion which has been sourced from Australia, London and Amsterdam - and  teamed with quirky accessories from as far afield as Cuba. Our look is chic, casual, elegant, understated. Our philosophy is simple. If we don’t like to wear it, we don’t sell it.

At Unplugged, we believe fashion, art, music and adventure are key to a life well lived. Our shop is a kaleidoscope of clothing and collectables, offering customers plenty of reasons to return.

For those of you who can’t make it to Byron Bay, we’ve made sure all our stock is available online and our site is updated daily.  True to the spirit of Unplugged, we practice old-fashioned customer service. If you want advice, a different size, gift wrapping or overnight delivery, just email or call us.

C’mon. Discover why Unplugged is unrivalled.
